The JLP looking forward

We’ve looked at the history of the JLP, from its birth to navigating the challenges of the Pandemic and beyond, but what does the future hold? How do we see our path over the next five years? Having a vision of ways to respond to change, meet evolving needs and strengthen the foundation of the Program will help guide our way.

A turquoise version of the 25th-anniversary splash logo, encircled by the words “The heart is the horsepower” Over a year, consultations took place with a range of people involved with the JLP. Participants, facilitators, staff and the Steering Committee were all asked to contribute. In addition, 15 representatives from the broader learning community (both union and management) contributed their insights on the future of workplace learning.

The resulting strategic plan charts an ambitious path to 2030, while remaining firmly rooted in the values that have guided the Program for the past quarter century: the modernized six Ps of the JLP.

The Strategic Plan is structured around five goals:

  1. Service Offering: Update and enrich the JLP learning suite to ensure we remain relevant, timely and in alignment with the evolving needs of the federal public service.
  2. Delivery Modalities: Offer flexible ways of learning adapted to the new realities of the public service work model while staying true to the fundamental principles of experiential learning.A crystal ball sits on a table surrounded by stars
  3. Facilitators: Recruit, develop and retain high-quality facilitators able to deliver enriching experiential learning experiences in both in-person and virtual environments.
  4. Communication and Promotion: Increase the influence, impact, visibility and understanding of the JLP across the federal public service and its unions and strengthen participation through targeted and effective communication and promotion strategies.
  5. Partnerships: Develop strong and meaningful partnerships that enhance the quality, reach and long-term sustainability of all our activities.

We are determined to keep aligning our actions with our values, and to keeping everyone engaged, enthusiastic and committed to building the Program into the future. The JLP Strategic Plan 2026–2030 is our collective roadmap to continue building a workplace that is more collaborative, inclusive, healthy, resilient and responsive.
