JLP congratulates Dr. Ian Arnold on his Meritorious Service Award

The JLP would like to congratulate Dr. Ian Arnold on being awarded the Governor General’s Meritorious Service Cross on July 1, 2020. The award recognizes his knowledge, skill and dedication to workers' mental health in the development of the first National Standard of Canada for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace. Dr. Arnold’s contributions to Canadians’ mental health and wellbeing are extraordinary, and his association with the JLP has been deeply fruitful.

A white man smiles at the cameraDr. Arnold completed his M. D. at Queen’s University at Kingston in 1968 and was certified in general surgery in 1973. His involvement in Occupational Health started in 1975, when he began work as a consultant.  Since his retirement in 2002, Dr. Arnold has continued his involvement in employee health and safety with a wide range of organizations, including the Centre for Mental Health in the Workplace and the Workforce Advisory Committee of the Mental Health Commission of Canada.

When the JLP was developing its Mental Health in the Workplace workshop in 2014, Dr. Arnold’s contributions to the project helped shape the JLP’s most popular offering. “The workshop would not be what it is today without his contributions. He was insightful and meticulous, and we were honoured to have him work so hard alongside us,” says Rachel Besharah, JLP Program Officer.

The JLP is proud to recognize Dr. Arnold and his ongoing contributions to Canadian health and mental well-being.
