Black History Month 2017

Every year throughout the month of February, Canadians recognize Black History Month. It is a time to commemorate the history and honour the significant achievements and contributions made by Black Canadians within Canada’s cultural heritage.

By celebrating Black History Month we are honouring our shared history in Canada but also recognizing and deepening our understanding of the unique history and the historical oppression of People of African descent.

We are also taking this opportunity to highlight the December 2016 decision to honour Viola Desmond by featuring her on the new ten-dollar bills.

Events will be held across the country, so be sure to check which activities will be organized in your area!
